RE: Digital TV converter, 12 volts?

I assume the converter boxes we need to buy for our non digital TVs are powered (to work their magic). Am I correct? If so, are there any that are 12 vdc?
Don
This features link does show that there rae a few that are 12V (look in the right column. They use a 120V adapter to get the 12V but 12V adapters are also available from Radio Shack that will power these 12V units from a regular 12V jack.

RE: Champion Generators in Nat'l Parks or Forests

BTW - the decibel reading for generators - there is never a distance listed. Anyone know how far away they are measuring the decibels?
Thanks
To quote the information on the Honda 2000 on the Mayberrys site
Noise Level: 53dB(A) (No Load) - 59dB(A) (Rated Load) @ 7 Meters
I think you will find that most noise levels are measured at 7 meters as well.

RE: Digital Converter FYI

Someone told us today that we had to have a Wineguard converter box or the antenna would blow our box. He said an RV tec told him that. True or False. We already got other boxes. Thx
Don't hook it between the antenna and the switch box. Instead, hook it between the switch box and the TV. It does require that the converter has analog pass through so that other devices can go through the switch box to the TV.

RE: Direct TV Spot Beam Update

I'm confused. Are the spot beams listed only where local channels can be acquired by people who live within the beam? I know these aren't the only place to receive DirecTv as I've gotten excellent reception all over the country. Someone please give me an idiot lesson.
The spot beams show where the local channels for a particular city are available.

RE: Hooking up TV Digital Converter Boxes

The converter boxes I bought have analog pass through. Hooking it up as hwybnb suggested would work if I only had the front TV. I also need a converter box at the rear TV. No one I've talked to can answer this question. With the analog pass through type converter box and when hooked up to digital cable TV at an RV park, will the cable signal pass through the box un disturbed if the box is turned off? That would eliminate the need for splitters and AB switches.
Most converters achieve the analog pass through by just turning them off but there may be a few that have a specific setting. Your manual should state what is necessary to get the pass through. To hook them up to each TV you would need to access the back of the TVs and disconnect the cable coming in and hook it up as the input for the converter and then have the output of the converter going to the TV. That would allow you to have each TV work on separate channels at the same time. IF you are using any video source other than the antenna, the converter would have to be set for the pass through. This allows your video switch box to control the input for each TV as it always has. If you hook up a converter between the antenna and the switch box, both TVs would have to watch the same channel. Your video switch box would still work as always, it just that the antenna input would only result in whatever channel was selected by the converter being available as antenna input to both TVs.
Getting access to the back of TVs is usually the difficult part. On my unit, the front TV has a panel at the bottom of the cabinet on the back that can be removed allowing access to it. The back TV is installed in a large cabinet over the closet and has a cabinet space next to it that has a small panel that must be removed to gain access to the back of the TV. You can't see what you are doing and just have to feel for the cables and connections.
Good luck.

RE: Sales Tax When There's A Trade-In

In California you only pay sales tax on the total amount of the vehicle before trade in. I didn't believe it myself and answered just the opposite of this, but I looked over my last contract and found that they charged me sales tax on the entire purchase price. California should be called : " THE RIP OFF STATE" as I already paid sales taxes on the trade in vehicle and now they found a way to collect on it again.
So you would obviously want to negotiate for the lowest possible sales price (and therefore the lowest sales tax), realizing you would also get the lower trade-in value as well. The difference between sales price and trade-in should be about the same but the sales tax will be lower.

RE: OK I bought the Colorado and need to

Ben Parsons is the best I know of in Jax. He is located in Marietta not far from Rivers RV. He did my Jeep (Falcon 2 tow bar, Base plate, Evenbrake, safety chains and all) and did an outstanding job.

RE: Addin Lattitue and Longitude to emails

It never ceases to amaze me how computer keyboard designers decided to leave out the degree symbol in favor of * and ^ and ~ and all that other nonsense.
The * and ^ are used a lot in spreadsheets or other math applications and programming. The ~ is also used quite a bit in programming. º can be made using the ALT-167 on the number keypad as has been said. It can also be done in Microsoft Word and other word processors by inserting a special character. If you are using a word processor, ALT-167 may not give you º as they use their own codes. For instance Word requires ALT-0176 to get it.

RE: WIFI on the move!

Also works in Canada for no extra cost.
That's huge! I looked on their website and can't find any information about service coverage areas, or plans. Can anyone give me a link for this detail?
You can call them and they will email you a map or you can go to Verizon website.
So they use Verizon for service? Do you have to pay Verizon in addition to the monthly fee for this service?

RE: Help me watch my football team

Hmmm..I have DTV and don't need two dishes to get locals.
His locals are probably on a satellite that is further from the 101 satellite than those of us that get by with the 3 lnb oval dish. I have seen this two dish configuration during my travels. Some subscribers are lucky enough to have their locals on the 101 satellite and don't even need the oval dish.

RE: Gas Avilablility in GA

Fill up somewhere in south to central Georgia and you will have sufficient fuel to get to Helen and back to St. Petersburg. Make sure the toad is full before you leave and unless you do a lot of driving in it, it will last for the trip as well.

RE: Campground near Disney in Florida?

Lake Louisa State Park is another State Park close to Orlando. I don't think it is as nice as Wekiwa Springs but it does have some 50 amp and some sewer connections. There isn't much shade though.

RE: Colorado or Canyon???

When I was looking for my toad, they were very high on my list. The problem I ran into was availability. I hunted for two months for a two or three year old 4x4 automatic (I don't buy new cars) and couldn't find one in our area, even at CarMax. I finally decided on my Libby and haven't regretted it one bit. Jeeps are very plentiful!:B

RE: electrical draw

Our electric bill always shows how many kilowatts we are being charged for. That is what you should be comparing, not the cost. Everything is more expensive this year than last.

RE: Who Is Confused???

They held this meeting last night as stated on their site.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS/MEETINGS
Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids Area Planning Board will hold a public meeting Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall at 1040 Roanoke Avenue for the following item:
Discussion of RV Parks. Related information is available to the public at the Planning and Development Office located in the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall Building at 1040 Roanoke Avenue.
Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting. The City of Roanoke Rapids will provide reasonable accommodations and services for any qualified disabled person interested in attending the meeting. To request the above, you may call Amy Landers in the Planning Office at (252) 533-2844 no later than three (3) days prior to the date of the meeting.
I wonder how it turned out?? I would think any decision made by a "planning board" would only result in a recommendation to the full city council. They would then take action on it in a future city council meeting.
There was another article in today's Daily Herald but it didn't say what happend in last night's meeting. It does say that "We're probably talking about something that's going to be a sensitive issue." Yeah, that's a bit of an understatement!:B
